Hunter x Hunter resumed serialization on June 29, 2026, ending an 18-month gap that had become routine for a manga whose hiatuses are now almost as famous as its story. Volume 39 followed on July 3, collecting the chapters readers had been chasing one irregular release at a time.
Creator Yoshihiro Togashi addressed the gap directly, confirming he's scaling back other work and prioritizing the manga because of ongoing health issues — a rare moment of the author speaking plainly about why the schedule looks the way it does, rather than leaving fans to speculate. New chapters have continued since, including a look at an older Gon that gave the fandom its first real sense of how far the time skip has pushed the cast.
The current arc keeps circling the Dark Continent expedition, a storyline so dense with political factions and body-horror creature design that even devoted readers have needed refresher threads to keep track of who's allied with whom. Chapter 430 reportedly closes out one of the arc's uglier threads, which longtime readers have taken as a sign the story is finally moving toward its next major turn rather than stalling again.
None of this comes with guarantees. Togashi has broken momentum before, sometimes within weeks of resuming. But a confirmed volume release, a direct statement about health and prioritization, and multiple consecutive chapters are about as strong a signal as this manga ever gives that it's staying active for a while.
