On April 27, 2026, Shueisha made it official: Kagurabachi is getting a television anime adaptation, premiering in April 2027. The announcement came with a teaser visual of protagonist Chihiro Rokuhira gripping one of the story's cursed swords, and the reveal trailer reportedly pulled in six million views within its first 24 hours — a number that reflects just how loudly the fandom had been asking for this.

The series is being handled by studio Cypic, with a director who previously worked on Naruto attached to the project, a pairing meant to signal that the studio understands what made the sword-focused shonen a hit in the first place: brutal, clearly choreographed fight scenes rather than abstract power fantasy. Crunchyroll has already locked down international streaming rights, so this won't be a repeat of titles that take years to reach a wide overseas audience.

Kagurabachi built its following almost entirely on craft. Kohei Chikaguchi draws few, high-impact fights instead of flooding pages with filler, and the story's premise — a swordsmith's son hunting down six enchanted blades forged from his murdered father's remains — gives the anime a tight, revenge-driven spine to adapt without needing to pad the pacing.

With an April 2027 window, there's over a year before the series actually airs, which is both a blessing and a risk: it gives the studio real time to get the animation right, but it also means a long stretch where all fans have is the manga to keep pace with. Expect more casting and staff reveals as 2026 closes out.
